Description

The Makhad Trust group will meet in Sharm el Sheikh and travel to Jebel Matamir, near the road from Nuweiba to St Katherine. The first two nights will be spent here and during the day we will visit the Nawamis burial chambers and explore Jebel Matamir. Afterwards the group drive to St Katherine in the mountains surrounding Mount Moses in South Sinai. They will camp in a garden in a wadi near St Katherine and spend four days constructing a small dam and perhaps a gabion barrier alongside Bedouin workers. The dam is vital for the preservation of water and will help the Bedouin gardens and wells lower down the valley. Once the work is completed they will return to St Katherine to visit Fansina, a womens' cooperative Craft Centre, and the famous fortified monastery of St Catherine.
A moderate level of fitness is required but no particular skills are necessary.
