Eco-tourism

The Trust is keen to promote sustainable living whilst at the same time taking care to protect the fragile environment. Through its projects in Sinai, it is able to restore certain key gardens which can contribute to eco-tourism in both desert and mountain regions. Care is taken to ensure that the building work (walls, dams and compost toilets) uses natural materials and is done with sensitivity to the beauty of the landscape.

In the St Katherine’s area of Mount Sinai the Trust is encouraging a series of routes of different degrees of difficulty that can be walked towards Mount Sinai. Visitors are able to use the newly-restored gardens belonging to the Bedouin and the Monastery for overnight camping. This will help the garden owners, make more use of their gardens and bring added prosperity to the region.
